State Health Regulatory Excellence Index (SHRESTH) • Launched by: Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, in August 2025. • Objective: To assess and improve the performance of state and UT drug regulatory systems in India. • Purpose: Strengthen uniform drug quality, safety, and regulatory efficiency across states. • Categories: 1. Manufacturing States – 27 indicators across 5 themes. 2. Distribution States/UTs – 23 indicators across 5 themes. • Themes: Human resources, infrastructure, licensing, surveillance, and responsiveness. • Significance: • Promotes uniform standards in drug regulation. • Identifies gaps for improvement. • Enhances India’s reputation as the “Pharmacy of the World.”
