Reang

The Reang, also known as the Bru community, are the second-largest tribal group in Tripura and the state’s only Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG). With a population of about 1.88 lakh, they are also found in Mizoram and Assam. The community traces its ancestry to the Shan State in Myanmar, from where they migrated to Tripura in several waves. Rich in cultural traditions, the Reangs celebrate Hojagiri Day with their distinctive dance form, and they have been demanding that this day be recognized as a state holiday in Tripura.
