Campi Flegrei

Campi Flegrei, also known as the Phlegraean Fields, is an active volcanic caldera located in the Bay of Naples, Italy. Unlike a typical volcano, it is a large, sunken volcanic system spread across a wide area. It ıs considered the largest active volcanic caldera in Europe, and 1s more active and larger than Mount Vesuvius, which les nearbv. The region is of high concern due to its dense population. Recently, an artificial intelligence (AI) model revealed new geological structures beneath Campi Flegrei. Most notably, it detected a clear "ring fault" - a circular fracture zone within the caldera. This structure is geologically significant, as it could potentially trigger earthquakes of magnitude 5, indicating elevated volcanic and seismic risk This discovery highlights the growing role of Al in geoscience, particularly in improving volcanic hazard assessment anc disaster preparedness.
