RAGGING IS A SERIOUS CRIME

Ragging, when tied up with the perverted imagination of the human being, affects adversely the victim as well as the family as a whole.

RAGGING MEANS:

Doing of any act, by disorderly conduct to a student of an educational Institution which causes, or is likely to cause, physical or psychological harm or raising apprehension or fear or shame or embarrassment to that student including teasing abusing or playing practical jokes on , or causing hurt to such student or asking a student to do any act or perform something which such student will not, in the ordinary course willingly do (The Kerala Prohibition of Ragging Act-1998).

PENALTY FOR RAGGING

No person who is a student of an education Institution shall indulge in ragging. Whoever commits, participate in, abets or propagates ragging within, or without, any educational institution shall, on conviction, be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extent to two years and shall also be liable to a fine which may extent to ten thousand rupees (Sec. 4, The Kerala Prohibition of Ragging Act-1998).

As per the order of the Hon. Supreme Court of India “If any incident of ragging comes to the notice of the authority, the student concerned shall be given liberty to explain himself/herself and if /his/her explanation is not found satisfactory, the authority shall expel him/her from the Institution and he/she is liable for prosecution”.
