World Coconut Day
World Coconut Day is celebrated every year on September 2nd to highlight the significance of the coconut palm and promote its sustainable cultivation and usage. It is observed in countries that are major producers of coconuts, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region.
Why September 2nd?
The date marks the foundation day of the Asian and Pacific Coconut Community (APCC) in 1969.
The APCC, now known as the International Coconut Community (ICC), initiated World Coconut Day in 2009.
Organisers
International Coconut Community (ICC): An intergovernmental body of coconut-producing countries under the United Nations ESCAP.
Supported by national governments, especially in countries like India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.
