Veerangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve

Veerangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve (notified in 2023) is Madhya Pradesh’s 7th and India’s 54th tiger reserve. Spanning 2,339 km² across Sagar, Damoh, and Narsinghpur districts, it lies between the Narmada and Yamuna river basins. Named after the valiant Gond queen Rani Durgavati, the reserve includes diverse landscapes—dry deciduous forests, grasslands, hills, streams, and the historic Singorgarh Fort.

Home to over 15 tigers, it also shelters leopards, wolves, sloth bears, blackbuck, chinkara, and over 177 bird species, including critically endangered vultures. The area strengthens the tiger corridor to Panna Tiger Reserve, aiding genetic connectivity.

Protected under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, the reserve also supports eco-tourism through safaris, nature walks, and birdwatching. Its creation was a key component of the Ken–Betwa river linking project, enhancing conservation and regional biodiversity.
