Ramsar Sites
Ramsar Sites are wetlands of international importance recognized under the Ramsar Convention, an international treaty signed in 1971 in the city of Ramsar, Iran.
The main goal of the convention is to conserve and wisely use wetlands—such as lakes, marshes, mangroves, and estuaries—because they are vital for biodiversity, water purification, flood control, and livelihoods.
United Kingdom currently has the highest number of Ramsar Sites globally, showing its strong commitment to wetland conservation.
