Product taxes are indirect levies on the production, sale, or transfer of specific goods and services, varying with output volume or value and added to market prices. Production taxes are fixed payments related to production factors or operations, independent of actual output quantity.
Product Taxes
•    It is applied per unit of goods produced or sold. It varies with volume and value.
•    Examples: Excise duty, sales tax, import/export duties.
•    Incidence : Product taxes are paid by the consumers.
Production Taxes
•    It refers to fixed charges on inputs or processes, paid regardless of production levels.
•    Examples: Land revenue on property, stamps and registration fees, profession/license taxes.
•    Incidence : It is counted as part of factor costs. 
•    Production taxes are paid by producers even if no output occurs.
