Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman (PM POSHAN) Scheme earlier known as ‘National Programme for Mid-Day Meal in Schools’ Provides one hot cooked meal to school students in government and government-aided schools in the country.

•    Centrally Sponsored Scheme
•    Provides one hot cooked meal to about 11.20 crore students.
•    Coverage: Students studying in Balvatika (pre-schools) and Classes I to VIII
•    School Nutrition Gardens: To give children first-hand experience with nature and gardening.
•    Social Audit: Made mandatory at district level to ensure transparency and accountability.
•    Vocal for Local : States decide menu suitable to local conditions. Emphasis on procurement of locally grown millets, vegetables and condiments to promote local employment and ensure nutritional diversity.
•    Special Focus Districts: Adequate provision for supplementary nutrition in
o    Aspirational districts
o    Tribal districts
o    Districts with high malnutrition burden
•    Tithi Bhojan: A community participation programme where special food is served in schools on special occasions.
