Lothal (Gujarat)

Lothal (Gujarat): Known as the "Manchester of Indus Valley Civilization" due to its role as a thriving industrial and trade center, it served as the most important naval trade site with the world's first known dockyard. Key findings include burial of cremated remains, rice husk (earliest evidence), fire altars, painted jars, modern chess precursor, terracotta horse and ship models, and instruments measuring 45°, 90°, and 180° angles.
Major Indus Valley Civilization (IVC) sites 
•    Harappa (Pakistan, River Ravi): Features two rows of six granaries on a big platform, stone lingam and yoni symbols, mother goddess figure, wheat and barley in wooden mortar, dice, copper scale and mirror, bronze dog chasing deer sculpture, and red sandstone male torso.
•    Mohenjo-daro (Pakistan, River Indus): Contains the citadel, Great Bath, great granary, post-cremation burial, bearded priest sculpture, famous Dancing Girl bronze statue, and Pashupati seal.
•    Dholavira (Gujarat): Known for giant water reservoir, unique water harnessing system, stadium, dams, embankments, and 10 large sign inscription like an advertisement board.
•    Rakhigarhi (Haryana): Largest IVC site with granary, cemetery, drains, and terracotta bricks.
•    Ropar (Punjab, Sutlej banks): Yields dog buried with human in oval pit burials and copper axe.
•    Balathal and Kalibangan (Rajasthan): Contain bangle factory, toy carts, camel bones, decorated bricks, citadel, lower town, and fire altars.
•    Surkotada (Gujarat): First site with actual horse bone remains.
•    Banawali (Haryana, dried Saraswati): Features toy plough, barley grains, lapis lazuli, fire altars, oval settlement, and radial streets (only such city).
•    Alamgirpur (Uttar Pradesh, Yamuna; easternmost IVC): Shows copper broken blade, ceramic items, and cloth impression on trough.
•    Mehrgarh (Pakistan): Precursor to IVC with pottery and copper tools.
