Kerala’s Tableau

Why in news? Kerala’s tableau, themed “Water Metro & 100% Digital Literacy: Aatmanirbhar Kerala for Aatmanirbhar Bharat”, won third place in the States/UTs category at the Republic Day Parade 2026.
The Kochi Water Metro is an integrated, electric water transport system connecting islands and the mainland through multiple routes, aimed at reducing traffic congestion and pollution while improving urban mobility, livelihoods, and inclusive development.
The Kochi Water Metro utilises inland waterways around Kochi—40% National Waterway-3, 33% Cochin Port Trust waters, 20% irrigation canals and 7% other inland waters—covering 15 routes over 76.2 km to connect 38 jetties across 10 island communities, supported by two boatyards.
Through the Digi Kerala programme, Kerala achieved full digital literacy by training 21.87 lakh people across all age groups, effectively bridging the digital divide, a milestone formally announced on August, 2025.
