Char Dham Yatra

Char Dham Yatra is a pilgrimage to four holy sites - Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath –located in Uttarakhand. In Hindi, 'char' means four and 'dham' refers to religious destinations.
•    Yamunotri – dedicated to Goddess Yamuna (Uttarkashi district). It is located near the source of River Yamuna in a narrow gorge
•    Gangotri – dedicated to Goddess Ganga (Uttarkashi district). It is associated with the origin of River Ganga
•    Kedarnath – dedicated to Lord Shiva (Rudraprayag district)
•    Badrinath – dedicated to Lord Vishnu (Badrinarayan)

The high-altitude shrines remain shut for around six months every year, opening in summers (April or May) and closing with the onset of winter (October or November). 
The pilgrimage is traditionally completed in clockwise order.
