Aama Samman Diwas
The Government of Sikkim has officially declared August 10 of every year as “Aama Samman Diwas” (Mother’s Honour Day). This initiative is intended to honour the selfless contributions, sacrifices, and unwavering love of mothers in nurturing families and strengthening society.A formal notification issued by Chief Secretary R. Telang (on July 30, 2025) announced the observance. It emphasizes that mothers, through their empathy, values, and care, play an essential role in shaping responsible citizens and building cohesive communities.Additionally, this date already held political significance in Sikkim as “Jan Unmukti Diwas”, commemorating the release of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) from prison in 2018. The state government has now merged these observances, blending political remembrance with the celebration of motherhood to add deeper emotional resonance to the day.
