Somaliland

Recently, Israel recognised Somaliland as an independent state. Somaliland is a self-declared entity in the Horn of Africa, bordering Djibouti, Ethiopia and Somalia, with a strategic Gulf of Aden coastline.
About Somaliland
It was a British protectorate, became independent on 26 June 1960, and merged with Italian Somaliland to form Somalia.
Persistent political and economic marginalisation, worsened under Siad Barre’s regime, led to conflict in the north.
After Somalia’s collapse in 1991, Somaliland declared independence and built its own institutions.
Its capital is Hargeisa.
It functions as a de facto state with its own constitution, elected government, judiciary, currency and security forces, combining democracy with clan-based governance (Guurti).
Berbera Port gives it strategic and economic importance, especially for landlocked Ethiopia.
The economy is mainly livestock-based, with exports to the Gulf region.
