Shiveluch volcano

Shiveluch volcano, one of the most active volcanoes on Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, has erupted twice recently, sending ash plumes up to 8 km above sea level and drawing attention to ongoing volcanic activity in the region.

Location and significance: Shiveluch is among the largest and most active volcanoes in the highly volcanic Kamchatka Peninsula.
Type and structure: It is a stratovolcano with steep slopes formed by layers of ash, lava, and volcanic rock, featuring multiple lava domes.
Eruption history: It has experienced around 60 major eruptions in the last 10,000 years and has been continuously active since 1999.
Nature of activity: Shiveluch frequently emits ash and steam and occasionally produces explosive eruptions, pyroclastic flows, and lava flows.
