Qom
Qom is a major city in north-central Iran and the spiritual center of Shia Islam in the country. It is renowned for its religious seminaries, pilgrimage sites, and Islamic scholarship.
It is home to the famous Shrine of Fatima Masumeh, one of Iran’s most important Shia pilgrimage sites.
Qom emerged as a major center of Shi’ite Islamic learning in the 8th century and houses Iran’s largest theological college.
The city played a crucial role in the 1979 Iranian Revolution and later became the residence of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini until 1989.
