Potomac River

The Potomac River is a major river in the eastern United States that flows from the Appalachian Mountains to the Chesapeake Bay, passing through Washington, D.C.

American Rivers has named the Potomac River as America’s most endangered river (2026).
Known as “The Nation’s River” due to its central role in U.S. history.
During the American Civil War, it served as a boundary between the Union and the Confederacy.
