Parasynnemellisia Khasiana

Parasynnemellisia khasiana is a newly discovered fungal species reported from the bamboo forests around Mawsynram in Meghalaya
Habitat and host: The fungus was found growing on dead stems of thorny bamboo, specifically Chimonocalamus griffithianus, during bamboo litter surveys.
Taxonomic significance: Laboratory analysis confirmed that the organism did not belong to any existing fungal genus.
New genus creation: Due to its unique characteristics, a new genus named Parasynnemellisia was established, with P. khasiana as its first described species.
Naming: The species name khasiana refers to the Khasi Hills.
Classification: It belongs to the fungal family Phaeosphaeriaceae.
Evolutionary importance: The fungus forms a distinct evolutionary lineage, separating it from superficially similar bamboo-associated fungi found elsewhere in Asia.
