Operation Falcon
Operation Falcon: Assam’s Strong Step to Save Rhinos
Operation Falcon is a special anti-poaching mission launched in 2024 by the Assam Police and Assam Forest Department. It aims to stop the killing of the endangered one-horned rhinoceros and crack down on the illegal wildlife trade. This operation has brought positive results in 2025 with zero rhino deaths reported so far.
What is Operation Falcon?
It is a joint effort combining the strengths of police and forest officials. They use both digital tracking and on-ground intelligence to find and arrest poachers. The operation was launched after two rhino deaths forced the government to rethink its anti-poaching strategies.
Key Achievements
* 42 poachers arrested, including 18 in Biswanath and others across several districts.
* Six major poaching gangs dismantled, many with links to Myanmar.
* Nine poaching attempts foiled through quick and well-coordinated action.
* Zero rhino killings in 2025, marking a huge improvement in wildlife protection.
Impact on Assam
This operation is not just saving rhinos, but also improving Assam’s image globally in wildlife conservation. With Kaziranga and other parks becoming safer, eco-tourism is expected to grow. Since 2016, poaching has dropped by 86%, with only 1–2 rhinos killed per year recently.
Operation Falcon shows how strong planning, teamwork, and technology can protect endangered animals. With continued efforts, Assam can become a model state for wildlife conservation and rhino protection.
