NAVYA Initiative
NAVYA Initiative: Skilling Adolescent Girls for a Stronger Tomorrow
The Government of India launched the NAVYA initiative on 24th June 2025 in Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh, to empower adolescent girls through skill-based training. It is a joint effort by the Ministry of Women and Child Development and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, supporting the broader goal of *Viksit Bharat\@2047*.
Objective and Focus
NAVYA, which stands for *Nurturing Aspirations through Vocational Training for Young Adolescent Girls*, targets girls aged 16 to 18 who have passed Class 10. Its goal is to train them in non-traditional job roles to boost their employability and break gender stereotypes in the workforce.
Geographical Reach
The programme begins as a pilot in 27 districts, including aspirational districts and areas from the North-eastern states. This ensures that even girls from remote and underserved regions have access to skill development opportunities.
Collaboration for Impact
This initiative formalises the collaboration between two major ministries to streamline efforts and resources. NAVYA also connects with existing schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), ensuring better implementation and wider impact.
Launch Highlights and Recognition
At the launch, certificates were distributed to girl trainees under PMKVY and PM Vishwakarma. These recognitions not only validate their skills but also boost their confidence.
NAVYA is more than a skill training programme—it’s a step towards creating an inclusive and empowered India. By equipping young girls with relevant skills and confidence, the initiative paves the way for them to become active contributors to the nation’s development journey.
