Mount Semeru

Location: East Java, Indonesia; within Bromo–Tengger–Semeru National Park, Lumajang Regency.

Type: Active stratovolcano; among the most active in Indonesia.

Elevation: 3,676 m (12,060 ft) — the highest peak on Java Island.

Tectonic Setting: Part of the Pacific Ring of Fire.

Geological Origin: Formed by subduction of the Indo-Australian Plate beneath the Sunda Plate (segment of the Eurasian Plate).

Activity: Known for frequent eruptions and continuous volcanic activity.
