Kamakhya Temple

 • Located on Nilachal Hill near the Brahmaputra River in Guwahati.
 • Dedicated to Kamakhya (Goddess Sati); one of the 51 Shakti Peethas and an important centre of Tantric worship.
 • Rebuilt in 1565 by Chilarai after destruction by Kala Pahar.
 • Famous for the Ambubachi Mela, celebrating the annual menstruation of the goddess.
