India Elected as Co-Chair of UN-GGIM for Asia and the Pacific (2025–2028)

India has been elected as the Co-Chair of the United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management for Asia and the Pacific (UN-GGIM-AP) for the 2025–2028 term.

Geospatial data refers to time-based information linked to a specific location on the Earth’s surface. It helps identify spatial relationships, patterns, and trends, and supports data-driven governance and planning.

• The election reflects India’s growing leadership in geospatial innovation, capacity building, and regional cooperation among Asia-Pacific nations.

• As Co-Chair, India will focus on promoting secure digital transformation, good governance, and data-driven decision-making under the UN-GGIM Strategic Framework.

About UN-GGIM

• The United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) is an intergovernmental mechanism led by UN Member States.

• It addresses global challenges related to the use of geospatial information and supports the integration of such data in development and policy agendas.

UN-GGIM-AP, one of five regional committees, represents 56 Asia-Pacific countries and promotes regional collaboration, knowledge sharing, and capacity development for achieving economic, social, and environmental benefits.
