For the first time, the Ghoomar Festival 2025 will be held simultaneously at all seven divisional headquarters of Rajasthan.

Ghoomar Dance

Type: Traditional folk dance of Rajasthan.
Meaning: The term “Ghoomar/Ghumar” comes from ghoomna meaning “to twirl or spin.”
Origin: Began as a devotional folk dance of the Bhil tribe to worship Goddess Sarasvati; later adopted widely across Rajasthan.
Performance Style: Performed by women wearing colourful, flowing ghagharas; marked by graceful twirls, circular formations, and synchronized movements.
Occasions: Commonly performed during weddings and festivals like Teej and Gangaur, and on other auspicious occasions.
Musical Accompaniment: Supported by traditional instruments such as Dhol, Nagada, Shehnai, and Harmonium.
Cultural Significance: Symbolizes joy, femininity, auspiciousness, and community bonding; an important expression of Rajasthani cultural identity.
