Floreana Island

Floreana Island, officially known as Santa María, is one of the inhabited islands of the Galápagos Archipelago, located about 1,000 km off the mainland of Ecuador in the Pacific Ocean. Recently, it gained attention after the reintroduction of over 150 giant tortoises, restoring a species that had disappeared from the island more than a century ago.
A 173 sq. km volcanic island in the Galápagos Archipelago, first colonized in 1832, known for Post Office Bay and its small farming community of about 150 people.
Severely affected by invasive species (removed by Galápagos National Park in 2007), it has many threatened species.
