Doomsday Fish (Oarfish)

 • Oarfish is a rarely seen deep-sea fish sometimes called the “Doomsday Fish.”
 • Scientific Name: Regalecus glesne — the longest bony fish in the world, reaching up to 11 meters.
 • Habitat: Found in the Mesopelagic Zone, typically between 200–1000 m depth.
 • Recent News: Two oarfish were spotted near shore in Cabo San Lucas, an extremely rare occurrence.

Note: In some folklore, oarfish appearances are linked to earthquakes or disasters, hence the nickname “doomsday fish,” though there is no scientific evidence supporting this belief.
