Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan (DAJA): India’s Largest Tribal Empowerment Campaign

Launched on June 15, 2025, by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, the *Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan (DAJA)* is India’s biggest-ever tribal outreach initiative. It covers over 1 lakh tribal villages and Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) habitations across 31 States and Union Territories.

Objectives and Significance
DAJA aims to empower over 5.5 crore tribal citizens by ensuring the saturation of welfare schemes such as Aadhaar, Ayushman Bharat, PM Kisan, PM Ujjwala, and Jan Dhan. It is also a tribute to Bhagwan Birsa Munda (Dharti Aaba), a legendary tribal freedom fighter, and part of the year-long celebration *Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh*.

Key Features

* Camp-Based Model: Over 22,000 Tribal Empowerment Camps have already been held in just 9 days.
* Service Delivery: Aadhaar enrolment (1.38 lakh+), Ayushman Bharat cards (1.68 lakh+), PM Kisan (46,000+), PM Ujjwala (22,000+), Jan Dhan accounts (32,000+).
* Cultural Integration: Folk arts, cuisine festivals, and tribal handicraft exhibitions are held to preserve tribal heritage.
* Tech-Driven Monitoring: Real-time dashboards ensure transparency and efficiency.

Five Pillars of DAJA

1. Janbhagidari – People-led and community-powered approach.
2. Saturation – Every eligible tribal household receives benefits.
3. Cultural Inclusion – Communication through tribal art, music, and languages.
4. Convergence – Coordination among ministries, CSOs, and volunteers.
5. Last-Mile Delivery – Reaching even the most remote hamlets.

Nationwide Reach and Participation
The campaign is active in 550+ districts, involving over 700 tribal communities and 75 PVTGs. From Rongo in Ladakh to Wayanad in Kerala, the campaign reflects true grassroots governance.

DAJA is more than just a welfare campaign — it’s a national movement of inclusion, dignity, and pride for tribal communities. By blending governance with culture and community leadership, India takes a historic step toward equitable development.
