Pressure drop criterion: 24 mb at 60° latitude, ~17.8 mb at 40° latitude
Has a low-pressure center drawing strong inward winds
Commonly forms in winter due to cold–warm air mass interaction
Often associated with atmospheric rivers
Causes blizzards, heavy snow/rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds
Most active in North Atlantic, Northwest Pacific, Southwest Pacific, South Atlantic
