Bagurumba Dance

Recently, the Prime Minister of India witnessed a large-scale performance of the Bagurumba dance of the Bodo community in Assam, with participation of over 10,000 artistes, highlighting India’s rich tribal cultural heritage.
About Bagurumba Dance
Bagurumba is a traditional folk dance of the Bodo tribe of Assam, deeply inspired by nature and agrarian life. It symbolises peace, fertility, happiness, and harmony and is closely associated with major Bodo festivals such as Bwisagu (Bodo New Year) and Domasi.
Key Features
The dance depicts blooming flowers and natural elements, reflecting harmony between humans and nature.
Performed in groups, often arranged in circles or lines, enhancing aesthetic appeal.
Traditionally performed by women, while men play the musical instruments.
Attire: Dancers wear handwoven traditional dresses such as dokkona, jwmgra, and aronai, usually in bright red, yellow, and green colours.
Musical Instruments: Includes kham (traditional drum), sifung (bamboo flute), and wooden instruments like jota, gongwna, and tharkha.
