Adamya: Strengthening India’s Coastal Security

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) plays a pivotal role in safeguarding India’s vast maritime borders. Recently, the ICG inducted ‘Adamya’, the first Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) of an eight-vessel series built by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), marking another milestone in India’s maritime security infrastructure.

Features of Adamya

‘Adamya’, meaning *indomitable*, embodies speed, agility, and technological strength. As a Fast Patrol Vessel, it is designed for quick interception, close-coast surveillance, and rescue operations. Its advanced navigation and communication systems will enhance coastal patrolling, anti-smuggling operations, and monitoring of Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ).

Significance in Maritime Security

The induction of Adamya reflects India’s emphasis on indigenous shipbuilding, aligning with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India). This vessel strengthens the operational capabilities of the Coast Guard to address emerging maritime threats, piracy, and transnational crimes effectively. It also ensures the safety of fishermen and coastal communities during emergencies and natural disasters.

Goa Shipyard Limited’s Contribution

Goa Shipyard Limited, a leading Defence Public Sector Undertaking, has consistently delivered technologically advanced vessels for the Navy and Coast Guard. Building Adamya and the upcoming vessels of the series highlight GSL’s engineering excellence and commitment to national security.

The induction of ‘Adamya’ into the Indian Coast Guard fleet is a significant step towards strengthening coastal security and maritime governance. It not only enhances operational readiness but also showcases India’s growing capabilities in indigenous defence manufacturing to protect its strategic maritime interests effectively.
