NVIDIA H200
Why in news? The Trump administration has approved NVIDIA’s sale of H200 chips to China under a new regulatory framework.
H200 is NVIDIA’s second-most powerful AI chip used for advanced artificial intelligence computing.
The decision allows shipments despite concerns among US policymakers about China’s military and AI capabilities.
New conditions set for H200 exports :
The chips will be tested by a third-party lab to confirm their AI capabilities before export.
China cannot receive more than 50% of the total H200 chips sold to American customers.
Nvidia must certify that enough H200 chips are available for the US market.
Chinese buyers must show sufficient security procedures and must not use the chips for military purposes.
Trump announced the sales would be allowed in exchange for a 25% fee to the US government.
Nvidia said the decision strikes a balance, helps it compete globally, and supports American jobs.
