Significance:

July 22 is celebrated as National Flag Adoption Day in India.

On 22nd July 1947, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted the Tricolour (Tiranga) as the National Flag of independent India, ahead of independence on August 15, 1947.

Description of the Flag:

The flag consists of three horizontal stripes of:

Saffron (top) – symbolizing courage and sacrifice

White (middle) – representing truth and peace

Green (bottom) – indicating faith and chivalry

In the center of the white band is the Ashoka Chakra, a navy-blue wheel with 24 spokes, derived from the Lion Capital of Ashoka.

Designer:

The flag was designed by Pingali Venkayya, a freedom fighter and Gandhian.

Importance:

The National Flag symbolizes the unity, sovereignty, and integrity of India.

National Flag Day is a reminder of the values of freedom and patriotism, and it honours the efforts of the framers of the nation.
