Propulsion: Ukrainian gas turbines.

Stealth: Reduced radar signature, NBC protection, automated systems.

Missiles: BrahMos (anti-ship/land) & Shtil-1 (SAMs).

Guns: A-190 100 mm gun, AK-630 CIWS.

ASW: Heavy torpedoes, rocket launchers, HUMSA-NG sonar.

Helicopters: Supports Ka-28/Ka-31 ASW/AEW helicopters.

Symbolism & Role
Namesake: “Tamal” – sword of Indra.

Mascot: “The Great Bear” (Jambavant + Russian brown bear).

Role: Enhances India’s blue-water capabilities across multiple warfare domains.

INS Tamal reflects India’s shift toward self-reliant defense while strengthening naval deterrence and Indo-Russian ties.
