INS Aravali

What is INS Aravali?
Type: INS Aravali is a shore-based naval base / information & communications centre, not a ship. 
Commissioning: It was officially commissioned on 12 September 2025 at Gurugram, Haryana. 
Inauguration: The commissioning ceremony was presided over by Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff. 
First Commanding Officer: Captain Sachin Kumar Singh has been named as the first commanding officer of INS Aravali. 


Strategic Role & Significance
Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA):
A core function of INS Aravali is to support Maritime Domain Awareness, i.e., enhancing India’s ability to monitor, analyze, and respond to maritime threats. 
The base will back various information and communication centres that feed into India’s command-and-control framework. 


Support to Key Centres:
It will support centres such as the Information Management & Analysis Centre (IMAC). 
Also supports the Information Fusion Centre – Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR), which is based in Gurugram. 
Administrative & Logistical Hub: According to CNS, the base provides a “foundation for a robust administrative and logistical support” that is “commensurate with the increasing scale and sophistication of facilities.” 


Technology & Collaboration:
The base is envisioned as a hub of technology, especially in information, communications, and MDA capabilities. 
Life of Soldiers
It’s also a place for collaboration, linking naval platforms, MDA centres, and partner nations, in line with India’s vision for greater regional security cooperation. 


Strategic Vision – MAHASAGAR:
INS Aravali aligns with India’s MAHASAGAR vision: Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions. 
Through this base, India aims to deepen its role as a preferred security partner in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). 


Symbolism & Identity
Name: Named after the Aravali Range, one of India’s oldest mountain ranges, symbolizing resilience and permanence. 
The New Indian Express
Motto: “सामुद्रिकसुरक्षायाः सहयोगं” (“Maritime Security through Collaboration”). 


Crest / Logo:
Features mountain imagery (Aravali) for strength and steadfastness.
A rising sun, representing vigilance, energy, and a new dawn for technological capabilities in communications and maritime security.
