FASTag
FASTag As per the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, 11.86 crore FASTags were issued by December 2025, accounting for over 98% electronic toll collection on National Highways.
• FASTag is an electronic toll collection device that uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to enable cashless toll payments while the vehicle is in motion.
• The RFID tag is affixed to the vehicle’s windscreen and allows toll charges to be automatically deducted from a linked bank account or wallet.
• FASTag is operational at all National Highway (NH) toll plazas and at over 100 State Highway (SH) toll plazas across India.
• FASTag is a flagship programme of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and NHAI.
• Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), promoted by NHAI, is mandated to implement the FASTag programme in India.
• The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) provides Clearing and Settlement House (CCH) services for FASTag transactions.
• 26 banks are certified by IHMCL for issuance of FASTags in India.
• 12 banks are certified to provide acquiring services at toll plazas.

As per amendments in the CMVR 1989 by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, FASTag is mandatory for all class M & N vehicles (four wheelers and above, carrying goods and/or passengers) w.e.f. 1st January 2021
