CHAKRA Scheme – SBI Centre of Excellence
Vision
* The State Bank of India has conceptualised the CHAKRA Centre of Excellence under its Project Finance and Structuring unit in line with India’s goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Focus
* The CHAKRA Centre of Excellence focuses on eight sunrise sectors such as renewables, data centres, e-mobility and charging infrastructure, batteries, semiconductors, green hydrogen and ammonia, decarbonisation, and smart infrastructure.
Investment
* These eight sunrise sectors are expected to generate cumulative capital expenditure of more than ₹100 lakh crore by 2030.
Objective
* The Centre of Excellence aims to support and enable this large investment while strengthening India’s integration with global value chains.
Sustainability
* It seeks to promote sustainable development and support India’s Net Zero goals along with economic growth.
Innovation
* The Centre will encourage the use of technology and artificial intelligence in project finance and structuring activities.
Advisory
* It will provide advisory support not only to the State Bank of India but also to the wider financial ecosystem.
Coordination
* The Centre of Excellence will work with policymakers and regulators to help build a strong manufacturing ecosystem that supports investment, innovation and sustainability.
