Why in News
Karnataka’s Bhoomi Project has completed 25 years. The success of the project exemplifies effective administrative reform through digital land governance, leading to improved transparency, reduced disputes, and better welfare delivery.
What is Project Bhoomi?
•    Launched in: 2000
•    Nature: Flagship e-Governance initiative of Karnataka
Aim: 
•    Computerisation and digitisation of land records (RTC/Pahani)
•    Digitise and modernise land records system
•    Reduce corruption, discretion, and delays
•    Improve transparency in land administration
•    Enable integration of land records with welfare delivery
Institutional Framework
•    204 Bhoomi Kendras established at the Taluk level
•    Act as citizen service centres for land record-related services
Key Technological Interventions
1)    Mojini Software (2007) - Survey and settlement software
•    Used for resolving boundary and survey disputes
2)    11E Sketch - Digitally generated pre-conversion cadastral map
•    Improves accuracy of land boundaries and area measurement

Capacity Building (Human Infrastructure) : Large-scale training programme for :
•    9,000 Village Accountants
•    8,000 Revenue Inspectors
•    1,000 Computer Operators
Transformation into a Digital Governance Ecosystem
•    Land records maintenance transformed into a comprehensive digital ecosystem integrating land & revenue administration with welfare schemes like PM-KISAN, Agriculture Department’s FRUITS platform and Aadhaar seeding of 2.17 crore farmers
Present Status & Scale
•    Nearly 2.5 crore land records digitised
•    Covers about 3.5 crore farmers in Karnataka
